A quote to remember #5

Hello Fellow Travelers! What’s the word like outside your window today?

I’ve talked a whole lot about my favourite quotes in my previous posts, so I’m going to keep this one short. πŸ™‚

This quote – Pleasure_journey_alain de botton

… is perhaps as true as life itself. I’ve talked a great deal about traveling and embracing the destination, becoming one with it, getting lost in it, but the fundamental fact of travel lies in this singular truth that is this quote : β€œThe pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset with which we travel than on the destination we travel to.” ― Alain de Botton

Each of our travels is defined by how we perceive the place, more than that, our expectations from our journey and whether or not those expectations were met satisfactorily or not. Sometimes even the best experience is not good enough, because it’s not what we had in mind.. (Talk about being control freaks! πŸ˜› ) We keep projecting our thoughts, expectations and world views on the places we visit, as if not to discover a new fact about the world, but to reconfirm what we already know about it. And that my friends, is the gravest travel sin, one can ever commit. You don’t travel to seek confirmation, you travel to seek novelty, to restore your faith in beauty, to explore the enigma that the world really is. We’re all so fixed in our ways and expectations, so opinionated about how things should be, we barely give ourselves time to open our minds, and embrace the world.

“Open your eyes, mind and heart, and the world will never look the same” is the mantra that goes on in my mind, every time I read this quote, and I try, I do to implement it every time I travel. You should too. πŸ™‚

Until my next post,
Travel more, expect less. πŸ™‚
