Top 5 things you need to know about the Mumbai Metro!

Cheers to the new Metro in the city! We’ve already read about it in the newspapers and heard about it on the radio, some of us have even taken the Air Conditioned Coach and thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

For the regular commuters, and future commuters, here’s a TOP 5 compiled from the FAQ section of their website (http://www.mumbai-metro.com/faq) for all the things you must know (and no, it’s not a history lesson, or a this-is-where-your-taxes-went post!)

#1 Provides East to West connectivity and reduces travel time from existing 90 minutes to about 21 minutes! (between Versova and Ghatkopar) 😛
All thanks to Mumbai Metro One Private Limited – a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed by Reliance Energy Ltd, Veolia Transport (France) and MMRDA.

#2 Runs for 18.5 hours daily (5:30AM – Midnight) and station dwell time of 30 seconds at 3.5 minute intervals. This will however be reviewed and the final schedule will be prepared before the system starts operation.
Until then Bhaag Milka Bhaag!

# 3 Paisa Vasool with the ultra modern Automatic Fare Collection System (AFC).

With the price set between 10/- and 40/- we’d be a different kind of daft to choose any other mode of transport only for that stretch!

#4 Broach the coach: all the stations are designed to accommodate six coach trains anticipating increase in the traffic in future!
…But we’re running with 4 coaches for now.

#5 Metro Special : equipped with lifts on the both sides of the road for the vertical movement for the disabled from Road to Concourse to Platform Levels. There’s tactile flooring  provided on concourse and platform level to guide the blind and coaches are powered with wheel chair accommodation.

With that being said, I hope these top 5 will stay with you, long after the air conditioning from the journey has. 😛

Until next time,
OkayBye!
