Hungry at Causeway

Hey Guys! What’s new with you?

Did you know that you tend to shop more on an empty stomach? #truestory I kid you not, honestly there’s going to be a wedding in the family and I’ve taken some extensive shopping trips lately, and I realized that it’s actually true, I indeed did end up shopping for a lot of stuff that wasn’tย reallyย required at that point in time, than I did when I shopped with a well fed belly.

Here’s a quick tip that’ll help you save more money on your shopping trip at Causeway (Because even though we all think we’re too posh for it, but we all shop there for one thing or another, and bargain like seasoned bad-asses don’t even bother denying it.) :ย  Grab a quick bite at any of these pocket friendly restaurants which cost less than 500/- for two people. Yes. less than 500/-.. for two people. That way you’ll only buy the stuff you need, and even bargain better. Here’s a fair warning though, I’m not sure if a full stomach makes anyone a better bargainer.. (maybe you should try it out and tell me how it work out for you ๐Ÿ˜› )

Without further ado, here are the top 5 places you can eat at, for less than 5oo/- along Colaba Causeway :

Even though Kamath, Starbucks, McDonalds, Leopold, Picadilly, Delhi Darbar and Mondegar are no-brainers, and quite affordable as well, here’s a list that will make you travel a little further into, or further along the by lanes of Causeway, and I promise you, they will not disappoint!

1. Bagdadi : 11, Tulloch Road, Behind Taj Mahal Hotel, Colaba, Mumbai.
For the meat lovers, this place, this menu right here, will ensure you’ve had just a little more than your fill. With generous portions you’d love to have second servings of, we wouldn’t be surprised if you had a greasy happy glow on your face, and ‘LOL’ moments at the spelling mistakes in the menu, after you leave from here! ๐Ÿ˜›

2. Olympia Coffee House: Rahim Mansion 1, SB Road, Colaba, Mumbai

Don’t be fooled by the words ‘Coffee House’ in it’s name, because not only will it serve you with some amazing bun maska and irani chai, it will also offer you a chicken biryani, fresh fruit juice, or in the event you feel like a brain hungry zombie, you’ll even get brains if you please.
(You could also additionally crack “bheja mat kha” jokes at friends if they order the said dish, and crack bad jokes as they eat.)

3. New Martin Hotel: 21, Glamour House, Strand Road, Near Strand Cinema, Colaba, Mumbai

Even though this one’s a little off the “causeway grid” and hides shyly in the bustle of Colaba Market, this Goan Food joint, yes GOAN FOOD joint, is anything but shy in terms of flavour and portion size.

4. Kailash Parbat :ย 5, Sheela Mahal, 1st Pasta Lane, Near Strand Cinema, Colaba, Mumbai

There’s a reason why this is one of the most iconic eateries, for vegetarians. You must eat here at least once and know why.

Not only is this place is close my heart, it’s even closer to home ๐Ÿ˜› the ambience and flavours have been intact all through my growing up years, and I still smile fondly at the plate of food which still appeases my taste buds in the same way it did when I was half my height, and age ๐Ÿ˜›

A multi cuisine favourite, with a no nonsense interior, it has generous portions for the stingiest pockets. ๐Ÿ˜›

Shubh Sagar : 5/6, Mistry Chambers, Strand Cinema Road, Opposite MTNL, Colaba, Mumbai

three words : I love it.

three more words : so will you.

Just go there, and order anything on the menu that seems even vaguely interesting, and it will taste good. (and that’s not something I can say about any of the other eateries listed above.)
